Could a cornstarch powder get you home faster after surgery?

NCT ID NCT07487636

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a starch-based powder called 4DryField PH, placed in the wound during head and neck surgery, can reduce the amount of fluid that drains out afterward. The goal is to shorten how long drainage tubes stay in and possibly reduce hospital stays. Sixty adults having head and neck operations will be randomly assigned to receive the powder or not, and their recovery will be compared.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
4DryField PH (a starch-based powder)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could mean shorter drainage tube use and faster hospital discharge after head and neck surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 60 patients, so results may not apply to everyone. The powder is a device, not a drug, so the effect may be modest.
