New MRI method could replace needle test for liver patients

NCT ID NCT06205992

First seen Feb 14, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tests whether a 3D MRI scan can accurately measure liver pressure in people with cirrhosis, potentially replacing the current invasive needle test. About 100 adults with confirmed cirrhosis will get both a 3D and 2D MRI, then a standard pressure measurement, to see which scan works best. The goal is a safer, simpler way to diagnose and manage portal hypertension.
