New PET tracer aims to spot hidden cancers
NCT ID NCT07602569
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing a new radioactive tracer called 18F-FGln, which targets glutamine—a nutrient that cancer cells need to grow. Researchers want to see if PET/CT scans using this tracer can more accurately detect and stage various cancers, especially those that are hard to see with standard scans. The study will involve 110 people with suspected or confirmed cancer.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
18F-FGln (a radioactive tracer for PET imaging)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a more accurate way to diagnose and stage certain cancers, especially where current scans may miss or misread tumors.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study with only 110 participants, so results may not apply to all cancers. The tracer's effectiveness compared to standard methods is still unknown.
