10 years later: how does psychotherapy for BPD hold up?
NCT ID NCT07509216
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study checks in with people who received mentalization-based treatment (MBT) for borderline personality disorder more than 10 years ago. Researchers want to see how they are functioning now, whether symptoms have changed, and if the type of MBT they received matters. Participants will fill out questionnaires and some will do interviews. No new treatment is given.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
mentalization-based treatment (MBT) - a type of psychotherapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could reveal how well MBT works in the long run for BPD and which treatment intensity is more effective, helping guide future care.
What could go wrong
This is an observational follow-up, not a new treatment trial. Results depend on participants' memory and may not apply to everyone with BPD. There is no new intervention being tested.
