Meningioma
MONDO:0016642A generally slow growing tumor attached to the dura mater. It is composed of neoplastic meningothelial (arachnoidal) cells. It typically occurs in adults, often women and it has a wide range of histopathological appearances. Of the various subtypes, meningothelial, fibrous and transitional meningiomas are the most common. Most meningiomas are WHO grade I tumors, and some are WHO grade II or III tumors. Most subtypes share a common clinical behavior, although some subtypes are more likely to recur and follow a more aggressive clinical course. (Adapted from WHO)
Also known as: meningioma, meningioma (disease), intracranial meningioma, meningeal neoplasm, meningothelial cell tumor, meningothelial cell tumour, primary meningeal tumor, primary meningeal tumour

New platform trial takes on NF2 tumors with multiple drug strategies
Disease control Not yet recruitingThis trial tests several drugs in people with NF2-related schwannomatosis, a condition that causes tumors on nerves and in the brain. The study uses a flexible 'platform' design to evaluate treatments for four tumor types: vestibular schwannomas, non-vestibular schwannomas, menin…

Could a cancer drug shrink brain tumors and save hearing in a rare nerve disorder?
Disease control Not yet recruitingThis trial tests the drug selumetinib in people with NF2-related schwannomatosis, a genetic condition that causes non-cancerous tumors on nerves, often leading to hearing loss. The study includes both adults and children whose tumors cannot be surgically removed or are growing. R…

Drug combo aims to shrink NF2 tumors and save hearing
Disease control Not yet recruitingThis trial tests whether combining two drugs—luvometinib (a targeted therapy) and serplulimab (an immunotherapy)—can shrink tumors and improve hearing in people with NF2-related schwannomatosis. Participants have progressive vestibular schwannomas or meningiomas that are not suit…

Supercharged immune cells take on brain tumor in first human test
Disease control Not yet recruitingThis early-phase trial tests a new treatment for malignant meningioma, a rare and aggressive brain tumor. Researchers take a patient's own gamma-delta T cells, arm them with an anti-PD-1 antibody, and inject them directly into the brain tumor cavity. The study will enroll 12 pati…

New PET scan method aims to outsmart brain tumor comebacks
Diagnosis Not yet recruitingThis study looks at 69 past brain scans using a special tracer called [18F]FET to see if it can more accurately tell the difference between a returning tumor and changes caused by previous treatment. Researchers will analyze both still and time-lapse images to find better ways to…

Starving brain tumors of blood before surgery
Symptom relief Not yet recruitingSome brain tumors, including meningiomas, hemangioblastomas, and certain metastases, have a rich blood supply that makes surgical removal difficult and risky. This study tests whether blocking the tumor's feeding blood vessels with a catheter procedure before surgery reduces blee…

Could a simple drug stop confusion after brain surgery?
Symptom relief Not yet recruitingThis study tests whether a medicine called dexmedetomidine can reduce pain and prevent confusion (delirium) in adults after brain surgery. Sixty people having planned brain tumor removal will receive either the drug or a placebo during surgery. The goal is to see if it lowers pai…

Could a prostate cancer imaging tool help fight brain tumors?
Knowledge-focused Not yet recruitingThis study tests whether a special PET scan (PSMA PET) can detect a protein on recurrent meningiomas, a common brain tumor. If the protein is present, it might allow a new type of targeted radiation therapy. The study involves 40 adults whose meningioma has come back after standa…
