Can the bugs in your wound predict a future infection?
NCT ID NCT01496014
First seen May 10, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looked at 646 people with severe open leg fractures to understand if the types and amounts of bacteria in their wounds at the time of final closure could predict later deep infections. Researchers collected bacteria samples during surgery and tracked infections for up to a year. The goal was to improve antibiotic use and infection prevention, not to test a new treatment.
