Water prescription boosts muscle health in seniors, small trial suggests

NCT ID NCT06497426

First seen Apr 02, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looked at whether drinking a set amount of water each day (30-35 ml per kg of body weight) could help older adults in nursing homes better use protein to build muscle. 17 people aged 65 and older took part, with half following the water plan and half drinking as usual. The researchers measured muscle strength, body water, and signs of protein use after one week. The goal was to see if better hydration could slow muscle loss related to aging.
