New numbing technique could make hand surgery simpler and safer
NCT ID NCT06040840
First seen Apr 20, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study tested whether a newer numbing method called WALANT (injecting numbing medicine directly into the wrist) works as well as the standard axillary block (numbing the whole arm) for carpal tunnel release surgery. 130 adults having endoscopic carpal tunnel release took part. The goal was to see if WALANT could avoid the need for extra pain medicine or sedation during surgery, potentially making the procedure faster and easier to recover from.
