VR headsets boost nursing exam skills better than group practice, study finds

NCT ID NCT06536361

First seen Mar 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study compared immersive virtual reality (VR) training to traditional peer-assisted small-group practice for teaching nursing students how to perform respiratory system physical exams. 76 second-year nursing students were randomly assigned to either VR using an Oculus headset or hands-on practice with classmates. Both groups improved, but the VR group showed significantly greater gains in knowledge and skill scores, though they took longer to complete the exam. Students also rated the VR tool highly for usability.
