First seen Sep 11, 2026 · Last updated Sep 18, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
Researchers at Karolinska Institutet are testing a program called YourSkills for children aged 10 to 16 who have elevated anger or disruptive behaviors. The program combines cognitive behavioral therapy with virtual reality role-plays to practice social skills. Children attend ten individual sessions at clinics, and parents and children answer questionnaires before, during, and after treatment. The study also interviews families and therapists about their experiences.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- cognitive behavioral therapy with virtual reality role-plays
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a new way to help children with anger and aggressive behavior practice social skills in a safe, controlled setting.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small pilot study with only 5 children, so results may not hold up in larger trials. VR therapy may not appeal to all children or fit every clinic.
