VR goggles take the ouch out of blood draws for kids

NCT ID NCT04479735

First seen Mar 06, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study tested whether virtual reality (VR) goggles could help children ages 5-21 feel less pain and anxiety during a blood draw. Half of the 126 hospitalized kids received standard care (numbing cream), while the other half also wore VR goggles during the procedure. Researchers measured pain and anxiety scores before and after the blood draw to see if the VR distraction helped.
