Surgeons rewire nerves to restore voice and breathing
NCT ID NCT02400008
Summary
This study tested a surgical procedure to restore function to paralyzed vocal cords. Doctors transferred nerves from other parts of the body to reconnect the muscles that control breathing and voice. The goal was to improve both speaking ability and airflow without causing swallowing problems. Results were measured over 12-18 months in a small group of four adults.
