Summary

This trial tests whether taking vitamin D3 daily, alone or with calcium, can improve sports performance in female indoor athletes. Over 90 days, participants receive either vitamin D3, vitamin D3 plus calcium, or a placebo, and researchers measure changes in muscle strength, balance, jump height, agility, and sprint speed. The goal is to see if this simple supplement can give athletes a measurable edge.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) drops, with or without calcium tablets, compared to placebo
What this could lead to
If vitamin D3 improves muscle strength and balance, it could point to a simple supplement strategy for enhancing athletic performance in indoor athletes.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial, so results may not apply broadly. Vitamin D may not outperform placebo, and high doses could carry risks.
