Summary

This study tested a drug called vismodegib in 104 people with advanced basal cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer that had spread or could not be surgically removed. All participants took the drug daily until their cancer worsened, side effects became too severe, or they chose to stop. The main goal was to see if the drug could shrink tumors, with researchers measuring how many patients had a complete or partial response.
