Surgery Face-Off: can a simpler tool with a vasodilator match the microscope for male fertility?

NCT ID NCT07306572

Summary

This study compared two surgical methods to repair a varicocele, a common cause of male infertility. Sixty men were split into two groups: one had surgery using magnifying loupes with a nitroglycerin spray to help identify blood vessels, while the other had surgery using a high-powered microscope. The goal was to see if the simpler, more widely available loupe method could be as safe and effective as the microscopic method, which is considered the current best practice.
