Bone injection may beat IV for preventing amputation infections in diabetics

NCT ID NCT07338773

First seen Jan 19, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests if giving the antibiotic vancomycin directly into the bone during surgery works better than the usual IV method to prevent infections after a diabetic foot amputation. About 40 adults with diabetes having a below-knee amputation will be randomly assigned to one of the two methods and followed for 90 days. The goal is to see which approach reduces infections, protects kidney function, and lowers the need for repeat surgeries.
