Parents' phone videos could detect sleep apnea in kids with down syndrome

NCT ID NCT04022460

First seen Mar 23, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study explores whether short video clips recorded by parents on their smartphones can help identify children with Down syndrome who are at high risk for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). About 141 children will participate. Parents will record their child sleeping and then guess if they think OSA is present. Later, a formal sleep study will check the accuracy of those guesses. The goal is to see if this simple, at-home method can speed up diagnosis and prioritize children for earlier treatment.
