DNA detective work aims to unmask hidden causes of hospital infections in kids

NCT ID NCT02271243

First seen May 17, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at children with central lines who develop bloodstream infections. Researchers will use DNA sequencing to compare bacteria from the blood with bacteria from other body sites to figure out where the infection really started. The goal is to better understand whether these infections come from the line itself or from other sources like the gut. This is an observational study that does not test a new treatment.
