Buttock crease may guide safer spinal injections in pregnancy
NCT ID NCT05983029
First seen Jun 10, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study looked at whether the groove between the buttocks (intergluteal cleft) can help doctors locate the correct spot on the spine for giving anesthesia during childbirth. Researchers measured the distance from this groove to the actual spinal midline using ultrasound in 100 pregnant women. The goal was to see if this simple landmark could make spinal injections easier and more accurate.
