Simple urea trick could make dangerous dialysis safer
NCT ID NCT06366230
Summary
This study tests whether adding urea to dialysis fluid can prevent neurological side effects when patients with kidney failure need aggressive treatment for dangerous electrolyte imbalances. Researchers will enroll 20 adults who require urgent dialysis for high potassium or severe acidosis. By matching urea levels in the dialysis fluid to the patient's blood, they hope to allow effective treatment without causing headaches, confusion, or other 'disequilibrium' symptoms.
