New pill could help hospitalized ulcerative colitis patients avoid surgery

Summary

This study tests whether the oral medication upadacitinib can safely treat adults hospitalized with acute severe ulcerative colitis and potentially reduce the need for steroids or surgery. About 50 participants will take upadacitinib daily while in the hospital and be monitored for up to a year. The results will be compared to past patients who received standard treatments.
