New rib surgery may help trauma patients breathe easier

NCT ID NCT04710602

First seen May 04, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study followed 100 people who had a less invasive surgery to fix an unstable chest wall after a serious injury. The surgery uses smaller cuts and spares the muscles, aiming for better recovery. Researchers compared their lung function and disability levels to a group who had a larger, older surgery. The goal was to see if the newer technique leads to better breathing and less long-term disability.
