High-Tech vs. human touch: which is better for tricky blood draws?
NCT ID NCT01789801
Summary
This study tested whether using an ultrasound machine helps nurses draw arterial blood from the wrist more easily than using just their fingers to feel for the artery. It involved 74 patients whose wrist arteries were very hard to find or where two previous attempts to draw blood had failed. Patients were randomly assigned to have their blood drawn with the help of an ultrasound image or with the standard touch method alone.
