Ultrasound-Guided spinal anesthesia: faster, safer, or just hype?

NCT ID NCT06656793

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study looked at 3,597 patients who had spinal anesthesia (numbing medicine injected into the back) for surgery. It compared the usual method, where doctors find the right spot by feel, to using real-time ultrasound to guide the needle. The goal was to see if ultrasound makes the procedure faster and reduces complications like accidental dural puncture or nerve injury. The results help doctors decide which technique is better for different patients.
