Gentler scan could replace uncomfortable exam for women in labor
NCT ID NCT07278271
Summary
This study is testing if using an external ultrasound scan on the perineum (the area between the vagina and anus) is better than the standard vaginal exam for deciding when to admit a woman to the hospital during labor. Researchers want to see if the scan leads to fewer inductions and is more comfortable for pregnant women. About 170 women in active labor will be randomly assigned to get either the ultrasound scan or the vaginal exam when they arrive at the hospital.
