Common liver drug tested for hepatitis a and e recovery
NCT ID NCT07525401
First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study tests whether a medicine called ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) can lower bilirubin levels in people with acute viral hepatitis (hepatitis A or E). Bilirubin is a waste product that builds up when the liver is inflamed, causing jaundice. The trial will compare 88 adults who get UDCA plus standard care against those who get standard care alone, measuring bilirubin changes after 7 days. If effective, UDCA could become a routine treatment to shorten hospital stays and improve symptoms.
