Bleomycin chemoembolization shrinks giant goiters without surgery

NCT ID NCT07258199

First seen Dec 10, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tests a new, less invasive treatment for giant nodular goiter—an enlarged thyroid gland with large nodules. The procedure uses a chemotherapy drug called bleomycin delivered directly to the nodules through a small tube, blocking their blood supply and shrinking them. The goal is to reduce the size of the nodules and relieve symptoms like trouble swallowing or breathing, without the need for open surgery. The study will enroll 30 adults with large thyroid nodules.
