Painkiller gel shows promise for itch relief in early study
NCT ID NCT03997851
First seen Jan 03, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This early-phase study tested whether a gel made from acetaminophen (the active ingredient in Tylenol) can relieve itching. Seventeen healthy adults received different strengths of the gel and a placebo on their arms, then had itching triggered by two different substances. Researchers measured how intense the itch felt on a scale from 0 to 10. The goal was to see if the gel works better than nothing for non-allergic itching.
