Can writing about trauma help prevent HIV in women who inject drugs?

NCT ID NCT05192434

First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 33 times

Summary

This study tests a program called TIARAS for women who inject drugs and are already taking PrEP to prevent HIV. Participants are randomly assigned to either write about a past trauma or write about neutral topics, and both groups also receive support to reduce drug use. The goal is to see if the trauma writing helps women stay on PrEP and avoid risky behaviors like sharing needles or having condomless sex. The study follows 219 women for 12 months to check if any benefits last.
