Thyroid pill may shield heart bypass patients from deadly complications

NCT ID NCT07380854

First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving a thyroid hormone pill (levothyroxine) to people with mild underactive thyroid before heart bypass surgery can lower their risk of serious heart problems like heart attack, stroke, or irregular heartbeat. About 338 adults scheduled for bypass surgery will be randomly assigned to receive the hormone or not. Researchers will track their health for up to five years to see if the treatment improves outcomes.
