New ultrasound method may cut unnecessary thyroid biopsies

NCT ID NCT06146764

First seen Apr 07, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looks at whether contrast-enhanced ultrasound (a special type of ultrasound that shows blood flow) can help doctors more accurately tell if a thyroid nodule is cancerous. Researchers will compare two ways of combining standard ultrasound with this special ultrasound to see which one works better. The goal is to improve diagnosis and reduce the number of people who get a needle biopsy that turns out to be unnecessary. About 800 adults with thyroid nodules will take part.
