Testicular cancer trial: could a stronger chemo course slash relapse risk?

NCT ID NCT02341989

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This phase 3 trial tests whether one round of BEP chemotherapy works better than one round of carboplatin to stop stage I seminoma testicular cancer from coming back. About 348 men with high-risk features (tumor over 4 cm or invasion of the rete testis) are being studied. The goal is to see which treatment leads to fewer relapses and how they affect quality of life.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Bleomycin, etoposide, and cisplatin (BEP) or carboplatin

What this could lead to

If BEP works better, it could offer a more effective way to prevent testicular cancer from coming back after surgery.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage comparison; BEP may cause more side effects than carboplatin, and the trial is not testing a cure—just reducing relapse risk.
