Rural telemedicine speeds lifesaving cooling for newborns

NCT ID NCT03706417

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tested whether a live video consultation between rural hospital doctors and specialists at a larger hospital could speed up the start of therapeutic hypothermia (cooling treatment) for newborns with brain injury. Researchers enrolled 115 infants born in community hospitals in Maine. The goal was to see if the telemedicine platform was feasible and if it reduced the time to start treatment, compared to past cases.
