Heart valve fix without surgeons on standby? major trial launches

NCT ID NCT07604402

First seen Jun 02, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a procedure called TAVI, which fixes a narrowed heart valve, can be safely performed in hospitals that do not have a heart surgery team available. About 1,600 people with severe aortic stenosis will be randomly assigned to have TAVI either at a center with or without on-site cardiac surgery. The goal is to see if outcomes like death, stroke, or hospital stays are similar between the two settings, as long as experienced doctors and emergency transfer plans are in place.
