Ventilator switch strategy tested for Hard-to-Wean patients

NCT ID NCT02921347

First seen Apr 02, 2026 · Last updated Jun 14, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study looked at whether switching between two types of breathing machines (invasive and noninvasive) could help patients who have been on a ventilator for a long time learn to breathe on their own. The study planned to include 83 adults who had been on a ventilator for at least 14 days and were expected to have difficulty weaning off. The study was terminated early, so results are limited.
