New method may help premature babies breathe easier without a breathing tube

NCT ID NCT07176117

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study looks at 422 late preterm and early term infants (33 to 38 weeks gestation) who have breathing trouble after birth. Researchers want to see if giving surfactant (a natural substance that helps lungs work) through a small airway device placed above the vocal cords, along with CPAP breathing support, is better than CPAP alone. The goal is to reduce serious complications like lung collapse, shorten hospital stays, and improve feeding and survival.
