New program aims to lower suicide risk in rural veterans

Summary

This study tested a program called BESST to help rural veterans who recently finished mental health treatment outside the VA. The program included one educational session and seven check-ins over three months. Researchers wanted to see if it reduced suicidal thoughts and hopelessness compared to standard care alone. 20 veterans took part.
