Stop antibiotics when symptoms stop? new study tests the idea in kids
NCT ID NCT07532941
First seen Apr 21, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study looks at whether children with bacterial infections like cellulitis, urinary tract infections, or pneumonia can safely stop taking oral antibiotics once their symptoms disappear, instead of finishing the entire course. About 200 children at the Royal Children's Hospital will be enrolled after completing IV antibiotics. Parents will track symptoms daily and attend a telehealth visit, with follow-ups at 14, 28, and 180 days to see if stopping early leads to the infection coming back.
