New device aims to stop chest bone from coming apart after major surgery

Summary
This study is testing a new medical device called STERN FIX, which is designed to better hold the breastbone together after it is cut open for heart or lung surgery. It compares the device plus standard wires to wires alone in 90 patients who are at higher risk for poor healing. The main goal is to see if the new system makes the breastbone more stable one month after surgery.
