Stem cell shot may save dialysis lifeline from clogging

NCT ID NCT07452822

First seen Mar 07, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This early-phase study tests whether injecting human umbilical cord stem cells can prevent the narrowing of a surgically created blood vessel connection used for dialysis. About 54 adults with advanced diabetic kidney disease will receive the stem cell injection during fistula creation surgery. The goal is to see if the treatment is safe and helps the fistula stay open longer, reducing the need for repeat procedures.
