Cord stem cells tested for lung disease safety
NCT ID NCT05468502
First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This early study tested a single injection of stem cells from donated umbilical cords in 17 people with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a disease that scars the lungs and makes breathing hard. The main goal was to see if the treatment is safe and tolerable, and to find the best dose for future studies. Researchers also looked for early signs that the stem cells might help improve breathing or quality of life.
