Could stem cells heal painful fistulas in teens with Crohn's?

NCT ID NCT04791878

First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This early-phase study tested whether injecting stem cells from donated bone marrow directly into fistula tracts could help heal them in teenagers aged 13-17 with Crohn's disease. Six participants received up to two injections of 75 million stem cells, three months apart. The main goal was to check safety, and researchers also looked for signs of healing. The study was terminated early, so results are limited.
