Stem cells injected into muscles in rare disease safety trial
NCT ID NCT04975841
First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 19 times
Summary
This study tested whether stem cells taken from a person's own fat and injected into their forearm and thigh muscles are safe for people with Inclusion Body Myositis, a rare muscle-weakening disease. Nine adults took part, each receiving injections on one side of the body. The main goal was to check for side effects, not to cure the disease, but researchers hope future studies might show if these cells can slow or improve muscle weakness.
