Double transplant hope: stem cells then islet cells for kids with rare diabetes

NCT ID NCT03835312

First seen Mar 27, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study is for children with a rare form of type 1 diabetes caused by a genetic immune problem. Doctors will first transplant umbilical cord blood stem cells to rebuild the immune system. Then, if the child is stable, they will receive a transplant of insulin-making islet cells. The goal is to see if this two-step approach can help the body produce its own insulin again.
