Cholesterol drug shows promise in ovarian cancer trial
NCT ID NCT04457089
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 33 times
Summary
This pilot study tested whether adding simvastatin, a cholesterol-lowering drug, to standard chemotherapy could slow cancer growth in 18 women with recurrent, platinum-sensitive ovarian cancer. Participants received simvastatin alongside carboplatin and liposomal doxorubicin. The main goal was to see if patients could stick with the treatment, and researchers also tracked cancer progression and CA125 levels. The study was small and early-phase, so results are preliminary.
