New probe reveals hidden risks of common bowel surgery

NCT ID NCT02052063

First seen Mar 09, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a surgery called STARR, which helps people with severe constipation caused by a rectocele or intussusception, also harms the muscles that control bowel movements. Researchers will use a special balloon device to measure muscle function before and after surgery in 28 patients. The goal is to find out why some people develop leakage or urgency after the procedure.
