Summary
This pilot study tested a 15-week reading program called STAR for 4-5 year old children being raised by grandparents or other relatives due to parental opioid use. The program involved caregivers reading together with the child using special techniques to build reading skills. The study included 20 children and their kinship caregivers, with half starting the program right away and the other half starting later. Researchers measured changes in children's reading abilities and caregivers' confidence in their parenting.
