Stomach stapling showdown: which technique prevents leaks best?
NCT ID NCT07565038
First seen May 04, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study looked at 290 people having laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (a weight-loss surgery) to see which method of reinforcing the staple line works better: using titanium clips or stitching the stomach lining over the staples (omentopexy with plication). The main goal was to see which technique reduces the risk of dangerous leaks after surgery. Participants were adults with severe obesity (BMI 40+ or 35+ with health problems) who had not had prior weight-loss surgery.
