First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study tested a smartphone app that reads lip movements and turns them into words on a screen. It was designed for patients with a tracheostomy who cannot speak because of a breathing tube. The study included 31 adults in intensive care units in Northern Ireland. Researchers wanted to see if the app helps patients communicate better and reduce distress.
