Experimental cell implant aims to help bodies make insulin again

NCT ID NCT06651515

Summary

This early-stage study tested whether implanting clusters of pancreatic cells (SR-02) into the abdomen could help adults with difficult-to-manage type 1 diabetes produce their own insulin again. Participants would have needed to take lifelong anti-rejection drugs to prevent their immune systems from attacking the implanted cells. The trial was withdrawn before any participants were enrolled.
